In 2024, a colleague introduced me to American Mahjong. I did what any reasonable person does when they get hooked on something new: I bought a tile set, rounded up three of my best friends, and dove in completely unprepared.

We bumped our way through YouTube videos, instruction manuals, and Instagram accounts, figuring it out together one confused Charleston at a time. It was chaotic, it was hilarious, and somewhere in the middle of all that fumbling we fell completely in love with the game.

After a year of playing with friends, I went to my first open play. I won 4 out of 7 hands. That's when I knew this wasn't just a hobby.

Since then I have taught over 30 women to play and built a mahjong community right here in my Frisco neighborhood. Get CRAKing is the natural next step — a way to share the game I love with more women across North Texas.
Why I teach the way I teach
With over 20 years of experience designing learning experiences, facilitating, and teaching in classrooms across the globe, I have seen what actually works when it comes to helping people learn. I have taught in corporate America, in non-traditional environments like prison and workforce development programs, and everywhere in between.

My background is in cognition, psychology, and neuroscience and I believe deeply that real mastery happens when you actually do the thing, not just study it. You don't learn mahjong by reading about mahjong. You learn by playing, making mistakes, asking questions, and playing again.

Every Get CRAKing session is built around that philosophy. We get tiles on the table fast. I give you just enough to get started, then I support you through real gameplay with feedback in the moment. The same way you'd learn anything that actually sticks.

And honestly? People are my jam. There's something really special about watching a group of women go from learning to identify tiles to calling tiles with confidence in a single evening.
That moment never gets old.
